Apex Mountain Resort will delay its planned opening on Dec. 6 due to insufficient snow on the lower slopes.
“The decision comes down to safety,” said James Shalman, general manager at Apex
“While recent weather delivered significant snowfall to the top half of the mountain, rain on the lower half wiped out the existing base. We did get 20 cm on Monday and about 7 cm Thursday, but the forecast calls for less than 10 cm over the next week -- still not enough for safe operations.”
Apex Mountain Resort is one of the few resorts in B.C. with snowmaking capabilities that cover the full mountain. However, this November’s unseasonably warm temperatures delayed snowmaking operations until Nov. 24, three weeks later than usual.
