ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — The UND women's basketball team trailed Elon by 12 points in the third quarter Friday afternoon at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center.
The Fighting Hawks rallied back to tie up the Paradise Jam Harbor Division's third-place match. However, they never managed to capture the lead.
The Phoenix fended off the Hawks' comeback attempt, hanging on for a 65-57 win.
UND fell to 1-7 with the loss. The Hawks went 0-2 at the Paradise Jam, finishing fourth in the Harbor Division.
Elon improved to 3-4 with the win.
Once again, UND was led in scoring by graduate guard Mackenzie Hughes. She scored 17 points, shooting 6-for-14. Hughes has scored 13 or more points in four straight games.
