SEATTLE — In their home opener Friday, the Seattle Torrent set the record for highest attendance at a women’s hockey game held in a U.S. arena, and the new attendance mark for a Professional Women’s Hockey League game at a home venue.
Those 16,014 fans — which included singer Brandi Carlile, RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Sasha Colby and members of the NHL's Kraken — saw the Torrent get shut out 3-0 at the hands of two-time defending PWHL champion Minnesota (1-1-0).
Climate Pledge Arena’s capacity for hockey games is 17,151, so it fell short of a sellout. But the crowd easily topped the previous American pro women’s attendance record of 14,288, set last year in Detroit.
