Pitt men’s basketball had well passed some already low expectations when it dropped a buy game to Quinnipiac on Monday night. But after sitting with the uncomfortable feeling of losing to a mid-major, and watching the film from an ugly defeat in which their trademark defense was shredded, the Panthers refocused and refused to be run over the next time out.

Pitt (5-3) put forth its most impressive defensive showing of the season, holding the explosive offense of visiting Ohio State (6-1) to 42.6% shooting from the field and 66 points, its second-lowest scoring output of the season so far.

The Buckeyes rallied in the second half and took the lead with under four seconds to play on a putback, but for the second straight year, the Panthers snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. In shades
