Liverpool, N.Y. — Liverpool boys basketball entered Friday’s season opener against Christian Brothers Academy boosted by a group of confident first-year talents.

It took the Legends’ youth some time to adjust, but they eventually settled in on their way to a 59-49 victory over the Brothers in the Zebra Classic at Liverpool High School.

“That’s all a learning curve,” Liverpool coach Preston Shumpert said. “They think they’re going to be able to just hop out here and it’s going to be like old times, but they have to pick up the speed and the intensity of the game. Everybody’s intense on the varsity level... they did a good job, though.”
