INDIANAPOLIS – When sophomore running back TJ Epperson finally crossed the goal line in the second half of Friday’s Class 3A state final at Lucas Oil Stadium, pushed into the end zone by his teammates to cut the Cascade lead to eight points, the Knights were feeling one thing: hope.
“We’re a really tough team, and our coaches coach us to be resilient and face adversity, so we were ready and we were going to play like it was 0-0,” Epperson said.
Bishop Luers did not complete the comeback after falling behind 19-0 in the first quarter and fell 29-14. But the Knights became the first team to hold Cascade under 30 points this season, and unlike last year’s 38-15 state finals loss to Heritage Hills, when the Knights trailed 21-7 early in the second quarter and were never again within striking
