FISHERS — Komets forward Nick Deakin-Poot had to be helped off the ice by his teammates the last time he was at the Fishers Event Center in the team’s season opener on Oct. 17.

He returned to Fishers on Friday and found himself surrounded by teammates again, this time in celebration. Deakin-Poot’s first goal of the season secured the Komets a 5-4 overtime win over the Indy Fuel in the same building where a fight landed him on the 14-Day IR.

“Hockey is a whirlwind,” Deakin-Poot said. “It’s a long season, and there are a lot of games. Obviously, it starting that way, it’s not ideal. But the support around here is awesome, and coming back to where it happened to get a game-winner makes it so much better.”
