BRUSLY, La. (WAFB) - Former West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Mike Cazes was honored and laid to rest Friday at St. John the Baptist Church in Brusly.
Cazes died Monday at his home after suffering a medical emergency. He was 69 years old.
The West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office provided a final salute for Cazes, who served as sheriff for 20 years before retiring in 2023. He spent more than 40 years in law enforcement.
“If you know Mike Cazes, the last thing he wants us to do is turn this into a funeral; he wants to turn it into a celebration, a celebration of a life well lived, a celebration of everything he meant to all of us,” said Jeff Bayhi.
