F rancine Smith had her whole speech down pat while waiting anxiously on the sideline.
The 10-year-old watched as her favorite player, Josh Allen, addressed a sold-out crowd at War Memorial Stadium last weekend.
Allen, a former University of Wyoming quarterback and the reigning NFL MVP, was in the midst of becoming the first UW football player in school history to have his jersey retired during a halftime ceremony against Nevada.
Most fans will remember last Saturday as the day Allen returned to Laramie, but not Francine.
For her, Nov. 22 will go down as the day she met Allen.
“She was going to say to Josh, ‘Welcome back to Wyoming. Are you still hurt from Thursday?’’ said Francine’s mom, Elizabeth. “Instead, she asked him if he knows 6-7. He does.”
