WEST LAFAYETTE – For the first time in Indiana football history, the Hoosiers are perfect.
Coach Curt Cignetti’s team dismantled rival Purdue for the second year in a row Friday night at Ross-Ade Stadium, running for 355 yards on 9.6 per carry on the way to a 56-3 victory in the 127th game in the series and the 100th with the Old Oaken Bucket on the line.
By the end of the game, the IU crowd contingent was left nearly alone to celebrate its unblemished campaign. Most Purdue fans had long since fled the coldest Bucket game ever, which had a kickoff temperature of 24 degrees.
In two years under Cignetti, the No. 2 Hoosiers (12-0, 9-0 Big Ten) have beaten Purdue a combined 122-3, their first back-to-back wins in the series since a string of four in a row from 2013 to 2016.
