Daily coffee intake could give people 'extra biological years', study finds View Image

A new study has found that certain people may be able to slow their biological ageing if they drink a maximum of four cups of coffee each day. Published in the BMJ Mental Health journal , researchers found people with severe mental illness consuming this amount could get an extra five biological years compared to non-coffee drinkers.

People who drank more than five or more cups of coffee each day did not experience these benefits. The scientists credited this effect to the powerful antioxidants found in coffee, noticing that it lengthened the telomeres that sit on the end of chromosomes.
