Shortcomings have plagued St. Joseph (Mont.) over the last seven years.
Year after year the Green Knights have been on the precipice of contending for state titles only to get in its own way. Last year it was a blown lead in the Non-Public A semifinals to Bergen Catholic. Examples of it even popped up this season.
In a one-point loss to St. Peter’s Prep in Week 4, the Green Knights fumbled the ball away on a potential game-winning drive. In Week 5 against Don Bosco Prep, miscues from the special teams unit came back to bite the team in a 17-14 loss in overtime.
Those were errors that haunted the Green Knights week in and week out. As a team, they acknowledged them and knew they had to be fixed as its schedule heated up heading into the playoffs.
