A supermarket that was working out as the most expensive for a basket of essentials is now the cheapest of all.
For almost three months running last year, Asda was the dearest of the six main supermarkets for eight basic grocery items including bread, butter, milk, beans, tea, coffee, chicken and mince.
But now, with a bill of £13.15, it's the cheapest for the basket for a third consecutive week - working out cheaper than even budget retailers Lidl and Aldi for the basic items.
With shoppers struggling to make ends meet in the run-up to Christmas , it's a relief that the only changes in this week's comparison are two price drops, albeit small ones.
