Community groups in Glasgow will be able to apply for further funding to install more lights in their local parks should they feel they are needed to promote public safety.

During an environment and liveable neighbourhoods committee meeting this week, an update was brought before councillors that highlighted a new approach to developing the city’s greenspaces and ensuring that communities are involved in managing them.

It comes after safety concerns were raised back in 2021 during COP26 when residents were forced to walk through Kelvingrove Park late at night due to a police diversion.

Since then a review of park lighting has been completed and NIF (National Improvement Framework) funding allocated to Castlemilk Park.
