A man who choked his partner after she asked him to pack his bags and leave has been jailed for 16 months. Regan McIlmoyle, 25, will be supervised for six months on his release from prison.
He admitted assaulting the woman at their home in Motherwell on August 18. Hamilton Sheriff Court heard the couple, who have two children, had been together for four years.
Scott O'Connor, prosecuting, said: "Around 9.30am they had an argument and the accused's partner asked him to pack his bags and leave. He went upstairs, telling her he was going to contact the SSPCA about their dog.
"The woman said she could phone people about him if she wanted to. The accused then stormed downstairs and grabbed her by the hair before placing both hands on her neck so that she was unable to breathe.
