A pedestrian suffered a serious leg injury after he was struck by a car, Nassau County police announced on Saturday, Nov. 29.
Officers were called to a crash at Bellmore Avenue near Grand Avenue in Bellmore on Friday, Nov. 28 at 12:07 p.m., where they found a 76-year-old man who had been hit while crossing the street. He was taken to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition, according to the police.
Investigators determined that the driver — identified as 19-year-old Luis Vargas of Hempstead — was heading north in a 2010 Honda when he struck the victim. Police said Vargas had consumed alcohol before driving and was taken into custody without incident.
Vargas is charged with DWI and was released on an appearance ticket returnable to First District Court in Hempstead.
