Cleveland, Ohio – I have an iPhone. Periodically, pictures of people who’ve died pop up.

Stick with me, this really is a Thanksgiving column.

If you have one of these phones, you know that you have little control of what pictures appear. AI or some other unseen force picks them out and they’re on your screen … but not for long.

Soon, another picture appears. They come from your file of photos on your phone. Don’t ask me how any of this happens.

At first, I found this annoying.

But now, I see the photos and sometimes, I smile.

There’s a photo of Joe Tait, who passed away on March 10, 2021. The legendary Cavs broadcaster was one of my closest friends. There are times when I start to pick up the phone to call him – only to remember he is gone.
