An undefeated record, No. 1 national ranking and conference tournament championship were not enough to keep the University of Charleston’s men’s soccer team from airport-hopping on Black Friday.
The Golden Eagles, seeded fourth in their region in the NCAA Division II national tournament, next meet top-seeded Southern New Hampshire in the third round in Hooksett, New Hampshire, on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Penmen can’t claim a No. 1 ranking, a conference crown or an undefeated mark, but they did come away with the top seed in Super Region 1.
Charleston coach Daniel Smee doesn’t begrudge Southern New Hampshire its top seed, he said, but conceded the feeling among the Mountain East Conference champion Golden Eagles is that their seed could and perhaps should have been higher.
