High seas and stormy conditions have impaired efforts to carry out a hull inspection on the Baltic III, grounded at Cedar Cove near Lark Harbour.

The cargo ship has been sitting on the rocks below an imposing cliff face since February.

While salvage operations are underway, winter is closing in, bringing with it high winds and stormy conditions.

The Canadian Coast Guard says oily debris from the vessel has been seen on nearby beaches, and while work is underway to clean up the debris, high surf is limiting efforts to conduct shoreline assessments.
