Why are reader comments on op-eds open for only three days? Your paper is published twice a week, and many readers don’t see every article immediately. Some of us read later in the week or find new information that adds to the discussion.
Limiting comments to three days feels like a convenience for the paper rather than an invitation to thoughtful civic engagement. Readers deserve at least a week to respond. News cycles move fast, but understanding and reflection take time, especially for those who work during the week and sit down over the weekend to absorb the news.
Extending the comment window would encourage more meaningful, informed dialogue; something local journalism should always champion.
