ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Even after finishing 7-1 in SEC play, the Georgia Bulldogs still needed a little bit of help to make their eighth SEC Championship game under head coach Kirby Smart.

They got it Friday night after the No. 16 Texas Longhorns handed the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies their first loss of the season 27-17.

After the Aggies’ loss, Georgia, Texas A&M and No. 7 Ole Miss are each 7-1 in conference play. No. 10 Alabama could join them if they beat the Auburn Tigers Saturday.

Alabama is the Dawgs’ most likely opponent. The Crimson Tide simply have to win against Auburn and they will face Georgia yet again at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

After doing their part by winning the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State Thursday, Ole Miss is hoping for Auburn to upset Alabama at home.
