OLYMPIA — The next round of razor clam digging on Washington beaches will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) shellfish managers confirmed this week that digging opportunities at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis, and Mocrocks beaches will run for seven days, ending on Dec. 8.
“Winter is coming, and so are the lowest tides of the season,” said Bryce Blumenthal, a WDFW coastal shellfish biologist. “We are hopeful that the stormy weather will stay away and harvesters will be able to enjoy some early December digging.”
The Washington State Department of Health requires test samples for marine toxins, and domoic acid levels must fall under the guideline level before a beach can open for digging.
Final approval usually occurs about a week or less
