Millions of drivers face a huge £2,000 charge and risk of prosecution for car insurance errors. New data has found that the rate of "ghost broking" among young drivers has jumped four per cent compared to last year, with it rising 22 per cent over the last two years.
Ghost brokers sell worthless car insurance on social media sites. The crooks lure in motorists with offers such as ‘70 pc discounts’ and guarantee to insure drivers at rock-bottom prices.
But the insurance scam leaves victims uninsured and at risk of hefty fines and even a driving ban. Motorists in the 17 to 25 age range are losing around £2,000 on average when they purchase fake car insurance policies from ghost brokers.
