GRAND RAPIDS, MI – West Catholic’s football team is going to work on an off day.
Dating back to July, Sundays have offered the Falcons reprieve from the grind of the high school football season, but there will be no rest on the Day of the Lord this week.
Not with a state championship on the line.
West Catholic (12-1) meets Pontiac Notre Dame Prep (11-2) in Sunday’s 4 p.m. Division 5 state championship game at Ford Field. Historically, the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s football state finals have been held on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, but due to Ford Field hosting Saturday’s college football kickoff between Michigan State and Maryland, the prep championship games were moved to Friday and Sunday.
