The Town of Collbran has until the end of the year to decide where its law enforcement services will come from.

The town’s Board of Trustees, which has since experienced a significant shake-up and was the focus of a Sentinel article on Nov. 22, voted in July 2024 to approve a $350,000 contract with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office to supply law enforcement services to the town.

The Sheriff’s Office had already been patrolling the area in the absence of a town marshal for Collbran, which the town had not been able to hire.

Then-mayor Kendall Wilcox said at the time that small towns have been having trouble hiring law enforcement officers because of increases in law enforcement salaries.
