WASHINGTON —
President Donald Trump issued a warning to pilots and airlines about the airspace surrounding Venezuela on Saturday, amid escalating tensions with the Latin American country.
"To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump didn't cite a specific reason for the warning. The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on Saturday.
The spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration referred back to a previous advisory issued on Nov. 21. The FAA warned pilots to use caution when flying in the airspace near Venezuela, citing worsening security and heightened military activity.
