The first gallery showing of Newnan First United Methodist Church's new art ministry was held on Nov. 21.

The Art Ministry Outreach began earlier this year by church member Ivonne Torres Sheren. The show as held at NFUMC.

Sheren, the ministry's chairperson, said the church has many artists in its congregation and she wanted to introduce visual art as a method of the church's outreach activities.

"(God) gives talent to people," Sheren said. "When you look at all these paintings, you see the beauty, the joy, the hope and the love. So through that, you can reach people. Somebody can come here and not be in a good state of mind because of worries or whatever and then just see a joyful drawing. It relaxes you. Art is amazing."
