Music director Stephen Mallinger got the memo following the COVID-19 pandemic that audiences wanted the gift of Christmas music, and plenty of it, from his group.
“ People couldn’t do anything celebratory,” he said. “You couldn’t go anywhere. You couldn’t do anything.”
Concert-goers “came out in droves” when the symphony returned to live performance in 2022. Ballet Jorgen co-presented The Nutcracker with the orchestra in 2023. Christmas songs were also a big part of last year’s Sounds of the Season.
“ We’ve kind of stuck with that plan,” said Mallinger
