DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - With snow piling up across central Illinois several county and city governments have declared snow emergencies.
Springfield and Decatur are asking people to move vehicles from streets that are designated snow emergency routes.
Jacksonville, Mount Zion, and Monticello have also declared snow emergencies with similar instructions for not parking on designated emergency snow routes.
The City of Springfield's snow emergency is in effect until 8 a.m. Sunday. Decatur said violators of the snow emergency face fines and towing. (maps to both city's snow plans are linked)
Sangamon County is under a Level 1 which applies to county roads only. That level means roads are snow covered and could be dangerous or hazardous. Drivers are encouraged to use caution.
