Angela Cohen was a single mom working two jobs living in an house built in 1959 and in need of a lot of repairs. There was lead found in the home, the oven did not work, the kitchen sink constantly leaked, old windows did not do a good job of keeping out the heat or the dust during storms and some of the windows would not open.
That changed when the city of Phoenix’s Neighborhood Services Program helped fund home repairs. The lead was removed and oven, sink and windows were fixed. In a Neighborhood Services video, Cohen said she saw her energy bill “drastically change” and dust stopped getting into the house.
“It just made my life so much better. It’s our home. It was meant for us,” Cohen said in the video.
