Frank Ragnow's return from retirement is over before it even started. Two days after the Detroit Lions removed Ragnow from the retired list with the hopes of bolstering their offensive line, the team announced the four-time Pro Bowl center will no longer be able to suit up due to a failed physical.

The Lions revealed that Ragnow has a Grade 3 hamstring strain, an unfortunate but unsurprising development considering the 29-year-old retired in June to "prioritize my health" after dealing with various injuries. Despite his health issues, Ragnow retired on a high note from a performance perspective as he earned Pro Bowl honors each of his last three seasons.

Detroit certainly could've used Ragnow's services with how its season has gone. At 7-5 the Lions are fully entrenched in a battle for a playoff spot, and they lost ground over Thanksgiving weekend by losing to the Green Bay Packers at home while the Chicago Bears upset the Philadelphia Eagles on Black Friday.

In their announcement, the Lions described Ragnow as a "team-first guy" and "true warrior" who will "forever be a Lion." Perhaps his attempt at a return will galvanize Detroit as the Lions aim to return to the postseason for a third straight season.
