One of the biggest plays of the first half of the Michigan vs. Ohio State game proved to be controversial.

Early in the second quarter, Ohio State faced fourth-and-5 on Michigan’s 35-yard line. Quarterback Julian Sayin lofted a pass near the right sideline to star receiver Jeremiah Smith.

As Smith crossed the goal line he began bobbling the ball and then stepped out of bounds with his left foot.

The call on the field was a touchdown but the play was reviewed. Replay officials could have ruled that Smith did not have control when he stepped out of bounds. The result of that decision would have been no touchdown, with the possession going to Michigan on a touchback.

Smith’s TD was upheld on review and after the PAT Ohio State led 10-6.

By halftime, the Buckeyes had increased their lead
