HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - With the holidays just around the corner, we’re celebrating a day all about shopping local this winter season. Small Business Saturday was created to encourage people to support the more than 33 million small businesses in the U.S.
With holiday shopping top-of-mind for many, the annual day is nestled between Thanksgiving weekend’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Advocates claimed it’s the perfect day to get out and stroll the sidewalks of your community’s local shops, and buy those special gifts.
Small Business Saturday started in 2010 to boost small retailers that were hurting during the economic recession. This holiday season, 8-in-10 mom and pop stores say the next few weeks will be key to their overall profit.
