US President Donald Trump has declared airspace above Venezuela “closed in its entirety” to all “airlines, pilots, drug dealers, and human traffickers”. ‌

The declaration is the latest escalation amid growing fears of armed conflict between the two countries. Tensions have been rising due to a US military build-up off South America, which includes troops, a nuclear submarine, and warships. ‌

Trump had said earlier this week that the United States is preparing new measures against alleged drug-trafficking networks in the country. In a Truth Social post , Trump said: “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY.” ‌
