Sir Tom Stoppard, the great Czech and English playwright and screenwriter, has died at 88.
United Agents confirmed Stoppard's death in a statement on Saturday, saying he died peacefully and surrounded by his family at his home in southern England, per NBC News.
Stoppard is one of the most decorated writers of his generation, winning an Oscar (Shakespeare in Love), five Tony Awards and three Laurence Olivier Awards during his career.
Some of his most notable plays include Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Travesties, The Coast of Utopia, Jumpers and The Invention of Love. Screenwriting credits include Empire of the Sun, Brazil and uncredited work on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
