Alberta Premier Danielle Smith faced a mixed reaction from members of her governing United Conservative Party on Saturday while pitching her recently-signed memorandum of understanding with Ottawa regarding a bitumen pipeline through northern British Columbia.

Smith took to the stage at the Edmonton Expo Centre on Saturday morning to the sounds of “Any Man of Mine” by Shania Twain along with cheers and applause from around 4,000 people.

In her 30-minute speech, Smith pitched the benefits of the agreement she signed with Prime Minister Mark Carney on Thursday , which include plans to scale back or eliminate some of the environmental laws she has previously spoken out against.
