MANSFIELD, Ohio — A 40-year-old man and a 9-year-old boy are dead after what police say was a "possible" murder-suicide in Mansfield on Saturday afternoon.

Officers with the Mansfield Department of Police were called to the 900 block of Woodville Road around 12:05 p.m. on a report of two people with gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, officers found a father and son inside the home.

The boy was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital where he later died of his injuries, police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mansfield police said that while the "circumstances appear to be a murder-suicide," they will continue to investigate the incident.

The names of the man and boy were not released.
