A Democratic state lawmaker is calling for Native American representation to remain on the state flag while also raising concerns about the state commission tasked with redesigning it.
State Sen. Nick Collins (D-First Suffolk), who co-chairs the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight, said he is concerned Native American residents have been “largely excluded from any meaningful participation in the process” of creating a new state flag and is calling for Native American representation.
The Massachusetts Seal, Flag, and Motto Advisory Commission is edging closer to nearing its December 15 deadline to submit a final recommendation to the State House. The Commission has released three proposed designs for a new state seal, flag and motto.
