JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KFVS) - The first snow of the winter season hit parts of the Heartland Saturday morning , so officials are urging drivers to use extra caution on the roads.
The National Weather Service does not expect temperatures to rise above freezing for the next couple of days, which could cause the melted weekend snow and rain to refreeze.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) warns those traveling back home this holiday weekend to expect a slower commute as crews are actively responding to clear routes as precipitation moves out.
In the St. Louis area, multiple major roads are closed due to crashes, downed power lines and semi-trucks at a standstill.
Roadways may be slick, especially on bridges and overpasses.
