Edna Karr, Shaw and South Plaquemines won quarterfinal games on Friday and kept alive their hopes of repeating as LHSAA football state champions.
Other New Orleans area schools set to play this week in the state semifinals are John Curtis against St. Augustine in the Division I select bracket, along with Belle Chase, St. Charles and Riverside in other divisions.
As many as seven local schools could advance to the state finals, and two state title matches could be matchups between local teams — if top-seeded Karr advances to face the St. Aug-Curtis winner and if St. Charles and Shaw each advance in the Division II select bracket.
For No. 3 St. Augustine, a semifinal win would put the Purple Knights in the state finals for the first time since 1979. Doing so would mean defeating No. 7 Cur
