MADURAI - Captain Ben Hasbach scored three goals Saturday to help defending champion Germany blank Canada 7-0 on Day 2 of the FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup.
Germany has won the field hockey tournament seven times and finished runner-up twice.
Jonas von Gersum, Ferdinand Steinebach and Alec von Schwerin also scored for Germany with Quirin Nahr adding a goal via penalty corner. The Germans blanked South Africa 3-0 in their opener.
Top-ranked Germany (2-0-0) tops Pool A with Canada (0-2-0) bottom of the four-team group. The 14th-ranked Canadians, who lost 4-3 to No. 22 Ireland on Friday, take on No. 10 South Africa (1-1-0) on Monday.
Toronto's Leighton De Souza scored twice against Ireland with Gurnoor Bhullar of Surrey, B.C, adding the other goal.
