NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Heavy fire displaced a family of six and took the life of a family pet in Newport News on Saturday morning.
The fire was reported shortly after 3 a.m. in the 1100 block of 35th Street, according to the Newport News Fire Department. They found heavy fire coming from the second floor and moving into the attic.
Three children and three adults were already safely outside the home when firefighters arrived. The family pet died in the fire.
The Red Cross is supporting the family, and the Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause.
