Luann Garber of Ottawa Hills has always been proud of her late father, World War II Army veteran Jay J. Shuer, a pioneering advocate for people with developmental disabilities.
As of late, she has also been extremely happy for him, she said.
That’s after Mr. Shuer was honored posthumously by Gov. Mike DeWine earlier this month in Columbus as one of the 20 newest Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame members inducted for outstanding post-military accomplishments.
“My father was a very proud veteran, and to have him get this honor, it means a lot to me and our family,” Ms. Garber said. “He was also proud of his awards for what he did for people with disabilities. So we are all very proud and happy for him.”
Mr. Shuer was a past commander of a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post, she noted.
