As the Maple Leafs left the ice in Pittsburgh with smiles on their faces, the feeling seemed to be: That was a lot more like it.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson started a scoring barrage — goals up and down the lineup — and a Leafs team whose confidence was fragile at best put away the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-2 on Saturday night.
Auston Matthews, Nick Robertson, Easton Cowan, Dakota Joshua, Bobby McMann and Nicolas Roy all scored to support the superb goaltending of Dennis Hildeby in a game that looked more like the one Leafs fans have come to expect.
On a worrisome note, Ekman-Larsson did not finish the game. There was no immediate update on his status.
