Joan Osborne has a strong memory of the first time she heard Bob Dylan: It was “Lay Lady Lay,” back when it was a hit single. “My first thought was, ‘Wow, I shouldn’t even be listening to this on AM radio.’ I remember being puzzled by it and knowing it was something beyond my understanding and very adult.”
She’s reconnected with Dylan many times over the years, including one of his songs (“Man in the Long Black Coat”) on her breakthrough album “Relish” in 1995, then doing a full album of his songs in 2017. She recently discovered some especially good live tapes from that tour, which she’s released as “Dylanology Live,” and she’s supporting that release with a Dylan-themed show at the Natick Center for the Arts on Dec. 4.
