Police have rushed to a town centre following reports of a serious incident. Greater Manchester Police said two men have been left seriously injured following an incident in Altrincham in the early hours of this morning.

The leafy town in Greater Manchester - famous for it's bustling artisan indoor food market - is near some of Cheshire's wealthiest villages and boasts boutiques, independent shops and grammar schools .

Police said they were called shortly after 3.20am to reports of a disturbance on Railway Street.

Two men have been left seriously injured - one suffering life-threatening injuries and the other, life-changing injuries.

One male has been arrested and remains in custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing.
