A Suffolk council received 70 reports about rats over a five month period between May and October, with the majority in a single coastal town.

East Suffolk councillor Peter Byatt, who represents Kirkley and Pakefield, tabled a motion to an East Suffolk Council meeting on Wednesday (November 26) asking how many call outs there had been to deal with rats in the district, where the incidents were and the cost of dealing with them.

He also asked what additional methods should be used to eliminate "this environmental menace".

In April, this newspaper reported how the council had been dealing with a 325% increase in call outs to rat and mice infestations in the district in 2024, compared to the previous year.
