Forgive the redundancy, as I have written about this before, but I can't help but marvel and be a little jealous at the city of Aurora's plans to repurpose the former SeaWorld site as a public recreation venue.

City officials broke ground on the future "Aurora Park at Geauga Lake" in late October. It will include an amphitheater, rock-climbing walls, fishing, kayaking, indoor and outdoor pools, a playground and the preservation of an existing aquarium.

It had to be tempting to flip the 43-acre site and its 53-acre lake to home developers who likely would have built expensive lakefront houses. Instead, city officials made a quality-of-life decision to invest $5.3 million to transform the site to benefit residents and the region for years to come.
