RACHEL Reeves has repeatedly denied that she misled the public over the Budget, claiming she would not “play fast and loose” with the public finances.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer was grilled by Laura Kuenssberg on her Sunday morning political show on the BBC about whether she had purposely misled people when she claimed that the UK Government had less cash than previously thought, so she had to increase taxes .

Reeves previously claimed there would be a £20 billion gap in meeting her self-imposed fiscal rule of not borrowing for day-to-day spending.

However, in a letter published by the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), the official watchdog which draws up forecasts for the Treasury, on Friday showed it had told the Chancellor in September that the gap would be much smaller
