1925: George W. Black, accompanied by Mrs. Black, drove up from his Sedona ranch on Saturday, returning the same day. He had that week made a trip to Pine by way of the newly opened Fossil Creek road, which has been in process of construction for a year or more and upon which there is still much to be done. The distance from Sedona is now 77 miles as compared with just about twice that formerly, as heretofore it was necessary to come almost to Flagstaff and then travel south to reach Pine. This last link now makes available another circle tour of somewhere about 200 miles for Sunday or weekend motorists.
